Menu of Services

  • Swedish Relaxation Massage with Optional Aromatherapy Essential Oils.  In my opinion, the massage that is truly effective is one that is administered with great sensitivity to the person being worked on.  It is possible to "read" the client's body such that particular areas are focused on, particular pressure is applied, particular stretching is performed, etc.  In addition, I find that open communication with the client DURING the massage is another important component of a fantastic treatment.  How is the pressure for you?  Are you okay with this or that (as I'm working)... nothing need be assumed.  Lastly, my focus is ALWAYS on allowing the client to go completely into their own "world" during their massage.  I keep talking to a minimum and am available to listen or speak when spoken to.  I want to facilitate the relaxation of my clients.  I abide by the State of Florida Department of Health's Code of Ethics which states that clients shall be draped discreetly at all times, and that no sexual conduct should ever be tolerated during a massage session.

  • Neuromuscular Deep Tissue & Trigger Point Therapy (Advanced). This is a deep tissue method that does not need to be very painful.  Often a softer, Swedish Massage can incorporate these techniques for a very pleasing outcome.  Addressing "trigger points" means working with the point in a muscle where pain/stress is most felt, where pressing and holding such a point does in fact elicit a release of stress in that muscle or even muscle group.  A "trigger point" that is very active will refer pain somewhere else, and a part of working with this system involves knowing the referral patterns of muscles.  For example, pain in the back of the knee MAY be due to either tightness in the hamstrings above OR the muscles of the calf below.  In such case, the stress is not actually originating in the knee, but is being referred from the associated areas.  Some muscles refer pain into themselves, others into other areas.  Charts are available on referral patterns online.

  • Stephens Method Medical Massage (Very Deep & Effective/ Allows for Postural Balancing, left to right)  This method is very much for the deep tissue enthusiast who believes that a little discomfort is an acceptable way of straightening problemed areas, for example one leg shows longer than the other (doesn't apply for true leg length differences in the femur) or one or both of the feet turn outward or inward, thus throwing off the whole body alignment from its foundation or the chest or the back muscles are just plain very tight and could benefit from being held at a generally looser tauntness.  Dr. Stephens is, by many estimations, an amazing chiropractor who has developed proven techniques for body alignment by way of manipulating the soft tissues of the body at their attachments/insertions at the bone level.  Dr. Stephens has taught her methods privately in her office and publicly in Pinellas County for years.

Expectant mothers may receive massage therapy who are not in their first trimester of pregnancy and whose physicians have not contraindicated massage for them.

Natural almond oil is applied unless lotion is preferred.

Hot stone massage is a variation on classic massage therapy. Heated smooth, flat stones are placed on key points on the body. The massage therapist may also hold the stones and use them to massage certain areas of the body.
The use of hot stones for healing dates back to ancient times, but it wasn't until Arizona massage therapist Mary Nelson introduced her hot stone massage technique, called LaStone Therapy, that the use of hot stones for massage caught on.

How Does Hot Stone Massage Work?

The hot stones are usually made of basalt, a type of rock that is rich in iron, so they retain heat. River rocks are normally used because they are so smooth - they have been smoothed naturally over time by the river's current.

The stones are immersed in water and heated in an electric heating device until they are within a certain temperature range. The stones may be placed at specific points on the back, in the palms of the hand, or between the toes.

The heat warms and relaxes the muscles, which allows the therapist to apply deeper pressure, if desired.

The warmth of the hot stones improves circula-tion and calms the nervous system.
